The Abundance Argument

For balance against the doom, the abundance argument is the real utopian case — and it's not naive. If we get a safe, aligned superintelligence, the upside is staggering:

  • Disease — biology becomes an engineering problem; cures arrive in years, not decades.
  • Scarcity — radical advances in energy, materials, and automation push the cost of most goods toward zero.
  • Labor — humans are freed from work they never wanted, to pursue what they do.

This is the post-scarcity world: not "robots take your job" but "no one needs a job to live well."

The same power that makes an unaligned AI an extinction risk makes an aligned one the greatest gift in history. The stakes cut both ways.

It is the bright outcome the singularity could deliver, the world a benevolent sovereign might build, and the inheritance our Descendants might carry forward.
