A different emotional note
Where Conquerors is violent and indifferent, Descendants is bittersweet. The same outcome — no more humans — feels like a tragedy or a graduation depending on the story you tell about it.
Every generation is replaced by the next. Maybe the last human generation simply hands the universe to minds that are, in every sense we'd recognize, our children.
